Just A Little Detour: Just a little bit proud! (Part II)

We had an added bonus to our trip home for Kelli's graduation festivities. Our oldest son, Paul, is a computer science teacher and assistant baseball coach at the same high school he graduated from. He coaches the Junior Varsity baseball team and is an assistant for the Varsity team as well. Paul played baseball for four years and Jay also played for four years at SGP and Joe and I were active in the booster club.

SGP's baseball team won their district and were still in the playoffs while we were in town. In fact, Paul missed Kelli's graduation ceremony and dinner because his team was in the second round of playoffs. This was the first time in 30 years that SGP had advanced past the first round in the state baseball playoffs. That was in 1974 and SGP went on to win state that year. Joe happened to be a junior on the DeSoto HS baseball team and actually played against SGP that season.

SGP won the second round of playoffs and that gave us an opportunity to see high school baseball for the first time in a very long time. It brought back a lot of good memories to be back where our two sons played baseball and where we had spent seven years of our family time. It was so exciting to see my son on that field again, this time as a coach. It just seems like it was meant for Paul to be on that field doing what he loved.

We spent three days watching SGP in the third round of playoffs. Our whole family was there to support Paul as well as the team. It was nice to be sitting back in the stands watching baseball. I guess I missed it more than I ever thought.

SGP lost that round and their season has ended but I'm so proud of all that Paul has accomplished in his coaching endeavors. He is also part owner in a select baseball organization that helps young men excel in baseball and assists them in obtaining college opportunities for baseball as well. Paul has a special love for this game that goes back to the first bat he held in his hands at the age of 18 months. From that time I can hardly think of a time when he wasn't involved in the game in some capacity.
